1. The Renaissance Hotel is new, large and clean. It has the amenities of a first rate city hotel. The room was in excellent condition. When I arrived there was limited electricity because of a city-wide power failure and the generators only supplied a minimal amount of power so there was initially no air conditioning. Fortunately the power came on about an hour after check in. There was a good buffet for evening and breakfast. A multi story shopping mall is attached to the hotel and free car parking for guests in the basement.

We stayed at this hotel for 1 night on the way to the Perhentian Islands and chose it because they had a bar (unlike most places in this very strictly muslim area) - essential for celebrating the first night of a holiday! The location was not ideal as it is some way outside of the main part of town, but fine for 1 night. Not over-impressed by the restaurant, but it's very typical of many a 4 star international hotel. The service, however, was excellent and even the bell boys were very helpful.
